This is an older topic, but it's interesting.  I think it boils down to treating someone the way you would want to be treated, asking yourself how you would feel if you were in their shoes, and acting accordingly.

I agree with the idea that these folks have to deal with the public and sometimes nonsense can't be avoided, but hopefully the good experiences outweigh the bad ones.  Of course there will be exceptions like with anything else, and the media tends to focus on those exceptions.  Scott has been at this for a long time and he handles himself well, as do many folks in the entertainment industry.
